Born

He doesn't look like this anymore, because his skin has since molted and grown back and molted again.  And we've also washed the blood off his eyebrow.  But here he is, seconds after birth.

Bear Balkcom (yep, full name)
Born February 25th at 9:40am
Weighed 8 pounds
Measured 20 inches

Already Bear is a natural fixture on our chests, in our bed, in our life.  On the way to the lake yesterday with Trail whining out one window that the snow had melted and wouldn't we hurry and let her out? and him in his ridiculously huge car seat and tiny snow bunting, with only a little patch of face showing, our backseat never felt more perfect.

I'll be back to tell the story of his birth.  I am so glad he is here.

  4. Oh, Bets. Wow. The picture you posted shows up right next to Dustan's Brahma/profile picture, and Bear and he have the same squinting/pursed lips thing going on--he looks like a miniature version of his daddy already! And I've never seen a more beautiful mom. It's holy, I tell ya. You guys leave me breathless with joy. Hope you're getting to take care of yourself some, too. Can't wait to meet the little man!

Do I need to be liked? Absolutely not. I like to be liked. I enjoy being liked. I have to be liked. But it's not like a compulsive need to be liked. Like my need to be praised.
