The Beginnings

It was late. We'd schlepped every last box up the stairs. Discombobulation filled the room. Lamps had abandoned their shades, chairs were upturned, little paths were necessary to get from one room to the next. I remember I took a shower and made coffee, swept everything off the table to clear just one space.

It was time to stare at swatches.

Picking a paint color is a funny thing in this house. It goes through all these processes and reasonings and filters and self-arguments between me and myself - then at the end Dustan goes "that one" - and it's always the one.

This apartment is finally painted, wall to wall. Oatmeal, Beach, Winchester, Butterscotch, "Mistint" Green and the eternal thorn in my side: PurpleGreySteelBluishSilverMist. The next few posts will be a collage of before-and-afters. Bear with me as I sort through photos. I can forecast the impatience of what it means to upload, and I'll be tempted to include nineteen versions of the same shot of this

this,

this,

and her.

  4. After seeing it in person I am reminded how amazing a female's nesting sence is... the photos don't do the place justice, it looks fantasticalitascitalfabuloooosssooo. Way better than what I did at my place (1980's lazy-boy and dog hair with puppy chewed molding)

  7. Hey Rach - that's the infamous "Mistint" Green. We were gonna go Kyoto green by Martha Stewart but found this one for $5 in the crappy bin. It was so close in color and soooo much cheaper, we went for it.

Thanks for the kind words people - more pics to come very soon!

  8. so as a person who loves to paint EVERYTHING, i am in love with the idea of seeing your transformations. justin is a "lets paint the walls white" kind of guy, so i generally don't include him in many of the convos except for an occasional "does this color make you want to throw up?" if it were up to me, our house would be an eclectic potterybarn masterpiece, but it's not, so i compromise :]

Do I need to be liked? Absolutely not. I like to be liked. I enjoy being liked. I have to be liked. But it's not like a compulsive need to be liked. Like my need to be praised.
